The ASU Trail Crew officially became a club in the Spring of 2005. Among the founding members were previous Appalachian Trail thru-hikers Ray "Otto" Douglas, Chris "criss-p" Peckham, Matt "Wrongway" Parsons, and Dan "Trail Yeti" Winters, as well as their current Faculty Advisor, Dr. Eric Frauman (email@example.com). The club works with the Tennessee Eastman Hiking and Canoeing Club in maintaining an extensive portion of the Appalachian Trail, and also at sites such as the Mountains to Sea Trail (MST), Elk Knob State Park and Grandfather Mountain State Park, and our own University Woods Nature Preserve on campus.
1) Beyond doing trail maintenance and building, the Trail Crew hosts a Gear Swap each semester on Sanford Mall whereby anyone can sell or swap their used or new gear and clothing. The club asks for a 15% donation of profits. As well, it is a great opportunity to find a hidden gem of gear or clothing to equip one for all seasons and outdoor activities. Footsloggers and Regear are common supporters of this event.
2) Each Spring semester the Trail Crew sets up a table at the annual Banff Mountain Film Festival hosted by ASU's Outdoor Programs Office (www.op.appstate.edu).
